What to do if an orchid starts to “cry”

Many flower growers notice sticky droplets on the leaves of an orchid. Why does an orchid “cry” and is it worth sounding the alarm if you notice such a phenomenon.

Details

The secretion of liquid by orchid leaves is a natural process called guttation, and you should not worry about this. Sticky drops on the leaves do not at all indicate that the flower is sick.

The roots absorb water with nutrients, transfer them to the stems and leaves.

The sap circulates and evaporates. Thus, the orchid maintains normal homeostasis.

But if sticky drops on the leaves appear often and in large quantities, this indicates that the flower is growing in conditions of high humidity.

Therefore, the orchid starts the process of circulating the liquid inside. In this case, it is enough to move the flower to a room with dry air. But in any case, the drops from the leaves need to be removed. The plant's sap contains sugars and mineral components that attract parasites and create comfortable conditions for the fungus to multiply.

Therefore, florists regularly wipe the leaves of orchids to prevent the appearance of unpleasant diseases.

You can wipe the leaves with an alcohol solution, which will not only clean the plates, but also disinfect them.

You can increase the immunity of the “weeping orchid” by feeding it. For example, with grapefruit extract or nettle infusion.
