What you need to know about soil and potting for violets to ensure they bloom for a long time
1
Violets or Saintpaulias are compact, beautiful houseplants. They bloom very beautifully if they are provided with good growing conditions. Many factors influence their development, but the most important thing is the soil and the pot. Let's talk about them to eliminate misunderstandings when choosing them.
Soil features
It is important to provide fairly light soil for violets. The standard one, which is sold in the store under the label “For Saintpaulias”, does not fully meet the needs of violets. It is somewhat heavy. For violets, it is best to use peat moss. In a good format, the composition should be as follows: 60% peat, 30% agroperlite and 10% polystyrene beads.
Requirements for pots
Violets categorically do not like to grow in cramped conditions. They will grow, increase green mass, but will not grow to bloom. Given this feature, it is best to take small pots. It should be three times smaller than the size of the outlet.
Pots should have drainage holes. Aeration of the roots is required. In addition, it is better to water violets from the bottom, through a tray, and not from above onto the soil. With the right pot, violets will feel their best, and their flowering will last long and bright.
