The topic of lack of vitamins in the body becomes topical in the spring – it is believed that after a long winter with the absence of the Sun, fresh vegetables and fruits, people almost universally begin to suffer from a lack of many trace elements. However, according to the doctor, although the level of some vitamins can actually be reduced at this time of year, “such cases are not very many”.
The problem is that citizens start taking vitamins based on their own ideas about the need such prevention of vitamin deficiency. This method of strengthening the body is far from safe for health. Speaking about this, the expert noted that “in addition to vitamins, each pill contains a large number of other substances, which creates a certain burden on the body”.
The doctor said in an interview that one of the most serious risks, associated with self-inflicted use of vitamins, is a possible overdose, which can damage the liver. The specialist said that “first of all, this is toxic and medicinal hepatitis, that is, inflammation of the liver due to the intake of a large number of drugs”.
In addition, vitamins can cause allergic reactions – this includes the popular vitamins D or C, which are often taken to prevent seasonal infections.
