When is the best time to brush your teeth: before or after breakfast?

We are taught to brush our teeth every day since childhood. But some people get used to brushing them before breakfast, and some after. And what is correct from a scientific point of view?

In a study conducted by Medicover Stomatologia, up to 78.8% of dentists brush their teeth after the morning meal, 12.2% before breakfast, and 10% before and after. However, the standard recommendation is to brush your teeth after eating.

If you eat sour fruits or drink juices for breakfast, it is better to brush your teeth before eating. This is due to the fact that the fluoride in the toothpaste makes the enamel more resistant to acids. In addition, experts do not advise brushing your teeth immediately after eating an orange because in this case the enamel becomes more sensitive and brushing can weaken it even more.

Many dentists (almost half, 48.8%) use a simple toothbrush for brushing. But it is important that it does not have hard bristles: such brushes irritate the gums and damage the enamel.

When dentists were asked what the secret to healthy teeth is, many named three factors. These are hygiene, proper nutrition, and regular check-ups.
