Trinity Father's Saturday takes place every year on the eve of the great church holiday – Trinity. Its date changes, because it is tied to the celebration of Easter.
Father's Saturdays are special days when believers remember deceased relatives, praying for those who have already left the earthly kingdom. In general, there are seven such days in the Orthodox calendar. And Trinity Father's Saturday falls every year before the feast of the Trinity. On this day, it is customary to pray for the forgiveness of the sins of the deceased, as well as mercy for them from the Lord.
When will be Trinity Father Saturday in 2024
In 2024, believers of the Eastern rite will celebrate the Trinity on Sunday, June 23. So, Trinity Father's Saturday falls on June 22.
What traditions exist on Trinity Father's Saturday
The day before, on Friday, believers go to the cemetery to clean the graves of deceased relatives. During the visit, be sure to pray for their souls. On Saturday, it was customary to give alms to the poor so that they would also say a prayer for the dead.
In the morning, a funeral divine liturgy is held, after which a joint memorial service is held. People write the names of the deceased on special sheets so that the priest remembers them during the prayer. After the service in the church, they go to the cemetery, where there is already a private memorial service for the dead.
On Trinity Saturday, it is customary to prepare for the celebration of the Trinity. This day is usually devoted to prayer, reflection and repentance. It is also recommended to refrain from eating meat products, not to attend entertainment events.
What not to do on Trinity Father's Saturday
On the eve of the great church holiday – Trinity – believers observe certain restrictions in order to spiritually prepare for the celebration. In particular, it is forbidden to:
- swear, quarrel, slander;
- have fun, sing, dance, have fun;
- eat meat, dairy and fatty foods products;
- drinking alcoholic beverages;
- conflicting and insulting others;
- mentioning the dead with bad words.
Also the Church recommends postponing all household chores on this day, avoiding knitting, sewing, embroidery, gardening or carrying out repairs.
Folk omens of this day
Since ancient times, our ancestors noticed that the weather can determine what the future harvest will be. There were also other interesting omens:
- if a cuckoo crows, it will be good weather;
- it will rain – to a great harvest;
- at night there are no stars in the sky – it will rain;
- the moon in circles – the weather will be bad.
Our ancestors also believed that on this day mermaids come out of the water and shake the branches of birches growing near reservoir To protect yourself from them, you need to light a fire on the bank of the river.
