Why Trinity is called Green Holidays

People traditionally call this day Green holidays The name comes from pre-Christian times. Then our ancestors celebrated the end of the spring and the beginning of the summer calendar period. And what can better symbolize life than green leaves?

On the eve of the Green Holidays, on Saturday, even before sunrise, young girls went to the forest and to the field, plucked fragrant potions. Already in the evening, the boys were cutting down branches from linden, birch, oak, and maple trees in order to decorate the farm with them. The shutters and icons in the house were decorated with potions. It was considered a grave sin not to let the house bloom.

If the leaves remained green and fresh until the next morning, it was believed that this year illness and troubles would bypass the house. Trinity Sunday was called Pentecost because it was exactly the 50th day after Christ's resurrection.
