Different people can suffer from mental disorders. However, a recent study has shown that such illnesses are more common in those with low socioeconomic status.
A study conducted by the University of Helsinki says that there is a connection between the age of 30 and a person's socioeconomic status. It turned out that those with a low level of education at 30 are at a 58 percent risk of developing mental illness by the age of 52. This association was particularly strong in people with schizophrenia and in those who abused psychoactive substances.
The study also showed that those who were unemployed at age 30 or who had never worked at that age had a double risk of developing a mental disorder, writes .
During the study, experts analyzed information from a national registry on more than 1.2 million people born in 1966-1986.
Although the study found that mental disorders are more often diagnosed in people with low socioeconomic status, the wide prevalence of mental illnesses was also confirmed regardless of socioeconomic status.
