Which tomatoes should not be added to the diet?

Tomatoes are one of the most popular vegetables in the summer. They are versatile: tomatoes can be used for fresh salads, separately to complement the main course, canned, and even for a regular snack.
In traditional Chinese medicine, tomatoes are believed to strengthen the health of the intestines and spleen, improve digestion, maintain water balance in the body and help better digest food. In addition, they have antipyretic, diuretic and laxative effects.
Modern medicine has long proven that tomatoes protect the body from solar radiation, improve skin condition and have anti-cancer effects. However, there are many types of this vegetable and some of them, on the contrary, are dangerous to health.
Unripe fruits
It is not recommended to use unripe tomatoes. They contain toxic substances: solanine, tomatine and potato toxin. As a rule, these components are found in nightshade plants – potatoes, eggplants and tomatoes.
Solanine irritates the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract, and in high concentrations can cause central paralysis, hemolysis or severe food poisoning. Moreover, symptoms of poisoning can appear almost immediately after eating a whole unripe tomato.
Only as tomatoes ripen does the solanine content in tomatoes begin to decrease, and then the substance completely disappears from the composition of vegetables. The main thing is to choose ripe fruits.
Rotten and spotted
Tomatoes with dark spots and traces of rot are also dangerous. This means that the vegetable is infected with alternaria – a fungus that metabolizes the toxin alternaria. It, in turn, provokes the development of oncology and other dangerous diseases.
Removing the rotten and dark part will not help to “clean” the vegetable of toxic substances. The fact is that the toxin has time to penetrate the clean pulp and spread throughout the fruit. Therefore, it is better to throw away a rotten tomato.
Who should not eat tomatoes
If you have chosen a clean and ripe tomato, you should think about your current state of health. For some people, these vegetables can be dangerous. In particular, they are not recommended for people suffering from acute gastroenteritis or acute bacillary dysentery. It is also not recommended to add tomatoes to the diet for those suffering from gout or hyperuricemia.
