Why did the lake in the Svyatoshyn district of Kyiv turn blue: the reason

It became known why Lake “Vira” in the Sviatoshyn district of Kyiv, on the Southern Borshchagivka, turned blue.
This was reported in the KP “Pleso”.
Utilitarians took water samples at two points of the reservoir: at a distance of 20 meters from the accumulation of pollution and directly under the accumulation of pollution.
The analyzes showed that the water does not meet the requirements of regulatory documents in terms of color, turbidity, odor, biochemical oxygen consumption (BOD), as well as the content of iron, ammonium nitrogen (ammonia), hydrogen sulfide, and phenols.

“Water samples showed that in most parts of the lake, the water belongs to the middle class of danger, which negatively affects the vital activity of living organisms, but is not critically dangerous. The oxygen content in the main part of the reservoir is 5 mg/dm³, which allows fish and other living organisms to migrate and survive. However, in places where pollution accumulates, the water belongs to a high class of danger and is harmful to living organisms,” the specialists said.
The reason for the lake's blue color is “water bloom” due to the presence of cyanobacteria (blue-green microalgae), which are in the vegetative stage. In the places of accumulation of high concentration of microalgae, the process of their rotting has begun, which raises masses of dirt to the surface and gives the water a blue color.
Specialists continue to monitor the state of water in the lake. Soon, KP “Pleso” will start work on cleaning the water area of Lake “Vira”. For this, a specialized amphibious vehicle Truxor will be used.
