Why do experienced gardeners tie garlic leaves in a knot

On the garlic beds you can see that the leaves of the plant are tied in a knot. There is a scientific explanation for why this simple action is associated with garlic harvest.

Details

It is known that the bulb of the plant is formed at the same time as the leaves grow. Only by mid-summer, nutrients begin to flow to the underground part of the plant to a greater extent.

Similarly, this process occurs with onions. However, in the case of garlic, farmers have to wait a long time until its leaves grow old and begin to die.

In order for the green part of the garlic to dry faster, experienced gardeners mechanically influence the leaves by tying them into a knot. This way, the process of bulb formation goes faster, which makes it possible to harvest earlier.

There is another opinion, according to which heads of garlic whose leaves have been tied grow larger and are stored even longer. However, this opinion is based only on personal experience and has not yet been confirmed.
