Why do we get fatter in the fall?

In the fall and winter, many people notice the appearance of extra pounds. This trend is quite common and does not lose its relevance year after year. But what is the reason for weight gain in the cold season?
The dietitian and endocrinologist explained that, starting in the fall, people move less, go out for long walks less often, and freeze. All these factors force us to consume more food, most often fatty and harmful, and less often to get rid of the calories gained.
Mikhaleva reminded that the minimum level of physical activity per day is 10 thousand steps for all age groups, starting from three years old. This is only about 1.5-2 hours of walking at a fast pace.
The doctor also recommended monitoring your diet, because in the cold season, when daylight becomes shorter, people begin to feel discomfort, apathy and even seasonal depression.
“This increases the need to eat “natural antidepressants”: high-calorie foods, rich in fats and simple carbohydrates,” explains the nutritionist.
Such products increase the rate of production of neurotransmitters that improve mood and cause pleasure. The problem is that such food also contributes to weight gain.
To avoid gaining an extra 10 kilograms by the end of winter, the doctor advised not to reduce the level of physical activity and to balance your diet. Emphasis should be placed on high-protein foods – lean meat, poultry, fish, whole grains, low-fat and unsweetened dairy products. It is better to give up fast food, and limit the number of desserts.
