Adults aged 19 to 64 need to get 700 mg of calcium every day, and the diet should provide this amount. Many people take calcium supplements, but experts emphasize that taking too much calcium is dangerous for health. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), “some studies suggest that high calcium intake may increase the risk of heart disease and prostate cancer.”

Scientists state that a high concentration of calcium in the blood and urine is associated with disorders of muscle tone, deterioration of kidney function, low phosphate levels, constipation, nausea, severe fatigue, frequent urges to urinate, heart rhythm disorders.

In turn, the Mayo Clinic claims that calcium supplements are not suitable for everyone, and they should be taken only as prescribed by a doctor, taking into account the specific existing problem. The doctor should also determine the dose – if you take a lot, it can lead to stomach pain and diarrhea.

From which sources are the best sources of calcium:

  • Okra, green leafy vegetables such as kale.
  • Canned fish such as sardines.
  • Beans, other legumes.
