Often the medicine is not give the desired result – and the point is not necessarily that they are ineffective. Very often, the patients themselves are to blame for this, as they do not take the prescribed pills correctly. As a result, the drugs “don't help”.
The endocrinologist explained what mistakes patients most often make. The specialist shared her advice on her Telegram channel, explaining what not to do.
Disrupting the medication schedule
One of the most frequent mistakes due to which medicines do not help is not to adhere to the schedule of taking them. “It is very important to follow the correct rhythm – strictly according to the doctor's recommendations,” the doctor points out. She also advises to clarify with the doctor how to behave if for some reason the pill is missed. Some medicines should be taken immediately as soon as a missed dose is detected, with others you can take your time and take the next pill according to the schedule after the missed dose.
Drinking the medicine with something other than water
Another mistake is to drink the medicine with tea, coffee, milk, and not water, as it should be according to the instructions. As a result, the active substance of the drug may not work. “It is ideal to drink a few sips of water at room temperature,” advises the doctor. She also reminds that it is strictly forbidden to wash down the pills with alcohol.
Arbitrarily change the dosage
In this case, the medicine will not work as it should and will not help. The specialist also advises to buy pills in the exact dosage, and not to break them into parts, even if the instructions allow it.
Do not follow the rules for taking medicines
If in the instructions, for example, it is indicated that the tablets are taken 20 minutes before a meal, should be followed. Otherwise, their reception will be useless and they will not help, since most of the active substance will not be absorbed. It is also a mistake to chew the pills that are supposed to be swallowed, or to disassemble the capsules, if this is not allowed by the instructions.
