Why potatoes should not be stored with onions

With proper storage, vegetables and fruits will stay fresh much longer. Therefore, never put onions and potatoes next to each other.
KJ Refrigeration experts told us how to properly store potatoes. According to experts, it is best to put them in a dark and cool place: for example, in a kitchen cupboard or pantry.
There is simply no point in storing them in the refrigerator. Moreover, if you put raw potatoes in the freezer, the product will spoil: its structure will change and it itself will become soft.
If you put potatoes and onions next to each other, the first will rot faster than usual. This is due to the fact that onions emit ethylene, which accelerates the ripening of fruits and vegetables. Onions themselves next to potatoes can also spoil even faster.
In addition, potatoes should be kept away from bananas, apples, and tomatoes. All because of the same ethylene.
