Why reading is good for older people

A group of researchers from the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology has discovered another reason to love reading. It turned out that it will help preserve memory as we age.
Scientists noted that interesting reading in your free time helps develop mental abilities, including episodic memory. Working memory, that is, the ability to hold thoughts in your mind when we are distracted, also improves.
Both episodic and working memory tend to deteriorate as we get older. In the scientists' experiment, elderly participants read for 90 minutes a day, five days a week for eight weeks.
They demonstrated significant improvements in working and episodic memory.
