Why the diet does not help to lose weight: the psychologist pointed out an important factor

Losing extra pounds is not hindered by the “one more galette cookie” eaten for breakfast, but by the stress a person feels. And the more stress she lives in, the more difficult it is for her to return to her former form.

As psychologist Tugce Denizgil Evre, a specialist in the psychiatry department of the Middle East University Hospital (Cyprus), told in an interview with the Turkish publication Sabah, diet alone is not enough to lose weight. In the fight against extra kilograms, “stressful situations must be brought under control”.

The doctor agreed that stress is an integral part of the life of a modern person. It is also about personal experiences, work load, conflicts with loved ones and colleagues, but she emphasized that during weight loss it is extremely important to be able to control stress and cope with it.

“Otherwise, stress can become chronic, and at the same time gastrointestinal disorders will begin, digestion problems will appear, social activity will decrease, and constant headaches will occur,” the doctor warned.

At the same time she emphasized that by immersing oneself in one's problems – by staying at home, a person gets into an even more stressful situation, which she actively begins to eat with the contents of the refrigerator.

The doctor advised to learn to get pleasure not from food, but from life.

“This will solve problems with excess weight,” she added.

Researchers from the University of Florida made a similar statement about the impact of stress on the body. Their work says that under conditions of stress, the body's ability to burn fat cells can actually decrease.

“Chronic stress stimulates the production of a protein called betatrophin, an enzyme that breaks down fat deposits. As a result, stress makes you accumulate more fat or, at least, slows down fat metabolism,” the researchers explained.
