< b>Siren sounds, real explosions and destruction of buildings, injury and death of people, staying for a long time in bomb shelters and basements – all these became the realities of our lives. Continuous stress exposes the nerves, affects well-being and social contacts.
In such times it is difficult to remain calm, balanced and sensitive to each other. Conflicts can arise against the background of fear and hopelessness, poor physical well-being and uncertainty or immutability of the situation. When even elementary basic vital needs are not satisfied.
How to keep your nerves in order and avoid conflicts during this difficult time?
- The first thing to do is to realize that a “nervous breakdown” is a normal response to abnormal events. We try to calmly react to the irritation, fear, anger, tears of others. We apologize for the weaknesses. Similarly, do not punish yourself for nervous breakdowns.
- We think that we can do good for ourselves and others now, without looking too far into the future. We avoid the state of inactive experience in favor of step-by-step implementation of the plan for the day. When attention is focused on what I can and should do today, there is no time left for worries and misunderstandings with others.
- Be useful. At first glance, it may seem like a paradoxical advice, but focusing on other people and the desire to help stabilizes our own emotional state, reduces anxiety, reduces the feeling of fear, and therefore makes us less conflicted.
- We strive to achieve productivity. It is important to do what we know how to do, what works well. When we see the results of our efforts, it strengthens the belief in victory. When we feel and notice our contribution to a common cause, it instills hope, allows us to communicate positively instead of quarrels and conflicts.
- Show care for yourself. It is good to have at least some time purely for yourself and, based on the actual situation, to satisfy your basic needs: food, sleep and rest, warmth, communication and solitude.
