“Will have big problems”: Kyiv will not cover the increase in electricity consumption in winter

As Oleg Popenko said, in winter the level of consumption will be 40% higher than the July maximum. Previously, the amount of generation was covered thanks to the Trypil thermal power station, but now it is destroyed.

According to him, this is connected with the destruction of the Trypil thermal power plant by the Russian invaders.

The expert said, that in winter the level of consumption will be 40% higher than the July maximum. He noted that usually the amount of generation was covered thanks to the Trypil CHP, but now it has been destroyed due to the shelling of the Russian Armed Forces.

“The start-up of CHP-5, CHP-6 and Darnytska CHP will not be able to cover even half of the generation needed by Kyiv. Therefore, there will be huge problems in the capital,” Popenko said.

He also emphasized the importance of strategic planning in the field of energy three to five years ahead in order to avoid similar problems in the future.
