Woman forgot to take out contact lenses at night and lost her sight

The victim's forgetfulness led to sad consequences.

An incident occurred in the American state of North Carolina that will surely make everyone who wears contact lenses think. A local resident was wearing lenses, and one day she forgot to take them off before going to bed. She could not have imagined how events would develop further.

The next day, the American woman felt that something was wrong with her eyes. The woman decided not to delay and went to the hospital, where the doctor examined her. The specialist discovered that the victim had a small ulcer on her cornea, which was caused by infection with Pseudomonas bacteria. A day later, the infection had spread so much that the American woman had lost her vision, retaining only her sensitivity to light. And here more serious medical intervention was required.

Then the doctor decided to assess the extent of the infection using a special dye that highlights the affected areas of the eye in bright color. It turned out that the bacteria had already spread to the entire cornea and were literally devouring it, leaving white dead tissue.

Oculists determined that the cause of the incident was the contact lenses, which had infected the eyes with dangerous bacteria at night. The Americans were prescribed antibiotics as treatment. After completing their course, the patient was prescribed steroids.

The therapy helped the American woman regain her vision, but not completely. According to experts' forecasts, after the end of treatment, her vision will still be worse than before.
