Youth stroke: researchers name the same reasons as in the elderly
0 < p>The causes of a stroke at a young age are the same as at an older age. This conclusion of scientists was presented at the virtual conference of the American Stroke Association.
As emphasized on the association's portal, previous studies showed that about 10-15% of strokes in the US occurred in men aged 50 or younger. In recent years, there has been a decline in the number of strokes, but primarily among the older generation. Among young people, these indicators remained at approximately the same level.
A team of scientists led by Tracy Madsen from Brown University decided to study the causes of strokes in the younger generation. In the state of Ohio and Kentucky, they analyzed the medical histories of 1,204 people who had experienced a stroke. The factors of this disease have been tracked for more than two decades. It turned out that they are:
- high blood pressure;
- high cholesterol;
- high weight;
- diabetes.
Scientists recommended encouraging young people to monitor their health. Problems with it accumulate and can end with a stroke at an older age.
